From the Grade 7/8 Coordinator
Hello parents and carers,
We are now in week 6 and it feels like the summer holidays were ages ago. Students, particularly the grade 7s, are developing their confidence and settling into routines. Ironically, today is the first day of NAPLAN for them with writing on the cards today. Shortly, there will be a reading comprehension and maths test to complete. There will be catch-up sessions running as well to allow us to capture as much data as possible. Not only is it a great challenge for students to experience test conditions, but it guides teachers, through triangulation of data (PAT, NAPLAN and ACF) to best target specific learning needs in the children.
We had a grade assembly recently where children were getting some alphabetical order practice in readiness for any fire drill/burned toast evacuations. Learning to sit still and show a speaker that you are listening also takes practice. This will come into play in our whole school assemblies as well which are held in the primary school multipurpose room. Parents and carers are welcome to attend.
I am noticing that overall, the lockers are working well, reducing issues with food and phones in class and providing security for students as well. They seem to have mastered their locks. I think the lockers help with student organisation as it requires planning for periods 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6. Some of these lessons are singles and require some planning and organisation around pencils, books and laptops. That is one thing we want to be developing here at school (Responsibility), along with resilience (Growth), respect for peers and staff, and finally safety.
