From the Principal - Term 4 week 6

Huonville High School Shines in a Week of Success and Community Spirit.

This past week has been one to remember at Huonville High School, with students, staff, and the wider community coming together to achieve incredible milestones across various events.

Inaugural Remembrance Day Service

For the first time, our school participated in a full-scale community Remembrance Day service, with all students and staff joining community at the Huonville cenotaph in a moving tribute. The event demonstrated the depth of respect our students have for those who have served to protect our freedoms.

Special thanks go to Mr Adrian Dorrington, and Mr Jason Lunden, and the entire team of speakers, ushers, set-up crew, chefs, and our fabulous student body for making this event a success. Highlights included:

  • The respectful procession to the cenotaph.
  • Aimee Cook’s heartfelt reading.
  • Students laying the wreath and hearing from veterans about the importance of remembrance.
  • A delightful morning tea with scones that brought everyone together.

Thank you to all staff for their preparation and support, ensuring this day was a shining example of our community spirit. Seeing our students' exemplary behaviour was a moment of immense pride for all.

Athletics Carnival Success

This year’s Athletics Carnival was nothing short of spectacular! A massive thank you to Miss Sophie Rainbird, Mr James Belstead, and Mr Riley Mislov for planning and facilitating the most successful carnival in memory.

The day was filled with fun, teamwork, and plenty of “have-a-go” spirit. It was a joy to see students embrace the activities with enthusiasm and camaraderie.

Boys’ Basketball Team Triumphs at State Championships

Under the guidance of coach Mr Riley Mislov, the boys’ basketball team participated in the State Basketball Championships at the Kingborough Sports Centre. They performed outstandingly, making it to the Grand Final after a stellar win on Sunday morning.

Though they fell short of victory against St Virgil’s, the team’s effort in coming back from a 20-point deficit was inspiring. Huge thanks to all the families and staff who supported the team

Congratulations to the team for representing Huonville High with such determination and sportsmanship!

A Week of Appreciation and Achievements

  • Sip and Paint: Thank you to Ms Christie Gumley, for organizing our first-ever staff wellbeing afternoon. The "Sip and Paint" session was a delightful opportunity for staff to unwind and connect.
  • Photo Shoot Success: A shoutout to Ms Kristy Gatehouse, for coordinating the Leading Image photo shoot. We look forward to using these images and drone footage for school promotions.
  • Senior Student Support: To all the staff who supported our Year 11/12 students in their final weeks, your dedication has been outstanding. Special thanks to Mrs Judi Cawthorn, Mr Clint Rottier, Mr Marcus Thalmann, Mrs Ari Powell, Mr Wayne Meyer, Mrs Jo Oates, Mrs Belinda Stewart, Mr James Melbourne-Thomas, and our amazing VET TAFE teachers. Also, congratulations to our students who really worked hard to get over the line and submit work to contribute to their course results for 2024. A wonderful effort.

Huonville High School continues to thrive thanks to the dedication and spirit of our community. Let’s keep up the momentum as we move toward the end of the year!

Kindly,
